It’s one of the things I wrestle with as I edit. People have a certain lens they view the world through: this is necessary, even helpful. But that comes through in the editing process: no, you imbecile, it should be this way.
I realised at some point last night it’s a bit like music: there’s no accounting for taste. I mean, Justin Beiber is a thing, right? I don’t understand that.
Today has been a bit more wrestling with opinion and trying to get it right. My goal? Keep the intent of the story, and the feel of the writing. Fix what’s broken, not what’s misunderstood.
